Errors
Status codes and what to do about them.
Errors use Anthropic's format, so SDKs raise their usual typed exceptions:

}| Status | Type | Meaning and fix |
|---|---|---|
| 400 | invalid_request_error | Bad JSON, unknown model, or an unsupported feature. The message says which. |
| 401 | authentication_error | Missing, wrong or revoked key. |
| 402 | billing_error | Balance is empty, or the key reached its spending cap. Top up or raise the cap. |
| 403 | permission_error | Account suspended. Contact support. |
| 404 | not_found_error | Endpoint not available on Hephaestus. |
| 429 | rate_limit_error | Too many requests or too many in flight. Wait for retry-after seconds. |
| 5xx / 529 | api_error / overloaded_error | Relayed from Anthropic. Retry with backoff. Never billed. |
